Emily Bernice Leamons, of Grapeland, departed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on Monday, the 6th day of May, 2019. She passed away at Whitehall Nursing Home at the age of 87. Bernice was born on the 18th day of February, 1932, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to J.L. Jordan and Etna Wilson Jordan.
She married Leon Cutler Leamons and together they had three beautiful children. Bernice was a housewife and worked with her husband in the family business, Leamons Exxon Gas Station. She also sold Avon for over 25 years. Bernice was a loving and caring mother. She was a talented cook and a friend you could always count on. She was a member of the Grapeland Missionary Baptist Church and Wilma Foote Music Club in Crockett. Her loving personality will be missed by so many people in the community.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J.L. and Etna Jordan; husband, Leon Leamons; son, Gary Leamons; and sons-in-law, Bob Rounsavall and Wyndy Russell.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Brenda Russell and Lesia Rounsavall; sisters, Mary Beth Lucas and husband Roy, Myra Johnson Kelly; brother, Raymond Jordan and wife Frances; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Perry and Linda Leamons; grandchildren, Leslie Russell, John Russell; and 4 great-grandchildren, Sonner Skinner, Cindy Skinner, Taylor Russell and Matthew Russell. Bernice is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 9th day of May, 2019, at Grapeland Missionary Baptist Church.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Bernice is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 10th day of May, 2019, at Grapeland Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Goodnight and Bro. Albert Munsinger officiating. Interment will follow in San Pedro Cemetery with Dr. Vance Drum officiating.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are her nephews and great-nephews, Ronnie Jordan, Terry Jordan, Mark Lucas, Bobby Johnson, Roy Lucas, Jesse Jordan and Justin Jordan.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Bernice’s memory can be directed towards Waters Edge Encampment, 7900 FM 1733, Crockett, Texas 75835.
