On Tuesday, the 22nd day of October, 2019, Harold “Gene” Holloway, Sr., age 79, of Palestine, went home to be with the Lord, with family surrounding his bedside. He was born on the 1st day of April, 1940, in Concord, Texas, to Raymond Holloway and Mary Alice Hurbrough Holloway.
Gene served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1961. He had worked for Brown and Root Industrial Services for 16 years. After leaving there, he drove a dump truck and worked in the maintenance department for Elkhart I.S.D. He was a pastor for over 30 years in the Elkhart and Palestine churches and had preached just two weeks before passing.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Charlotte Neal Holloway; sons, Harold Jr. “Bubba” Holloway and Melody Mays Holloway, Gary Holloway, Michael Holloway, David Holloway; daughters, Rhonda Barker and Lonnie, Kim Hollje and Larry, Chrystal Holloway. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and he adored them all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Holloway.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 25th day of October, 2019, in the Parlor of Rhone Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Gene Holloway are to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 26th day of October, 2019, at Days Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Dylan Mathews, Trey Barker, and Billy Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Crawford Cemetery in Slocum.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Adam Wells, Daniel Canter, Brian Ramaeka, Arnulfo Rios, Larry Hollje and Lonnie Barker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bro. Milton Herod, who was Gene’s pastor and a great friend and the men at Days Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Gene’s memory can be directed towards St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
