John Wesley “J. W.” Congleton, age 77, of Palestine, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, the 18th day of January, 2020. He was born on the 5th day of May, 1942, in Elmwood, Texas, to John Wesley Congleton and Meredith Lucille Gossett Congleton.
Mr. Congleton was a faithful Christian and member of Fields Chapel United Methodist Church. He served in the United States National Guard and worked in the oil and gas industry for many years. His hobbies consisted of woodworking, hunting and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Congleton is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet Hurbough Congleton; daughter, Stephanie Congleton of Palestine; sister, Vivian Sanders and husband Jerry of Palestine; brothers, B. L. Congleton and wife Donna of Kerens, Curtis Congleton of North Carolina; grandchildren, William Harmon and Mistie Harmon; and great grandchildren, Kenzie Harmon, Ariana Fisher, Lane Harmon, Rhalie Harmon, Kaylee Smith, Keaton Smith and Kolt Smith.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Tuesday, the 21st day of January, 2020, at Rhone Funeral Home.
A funeral service to the celebrate the life of Mr. Congleton will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 22nd day of January, 2020, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Scott Hurbough officiating. Interment will follow in Fields Chapel Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are William Harmon, Louis Smith, Ken Hurbough, David Hurbough, Jerry Sanders, Ray Harmon and Scott Hurbough.
