Johnye Eleanor (King) Douthit

Johnye Eleanor Douthit, age 93, of Palestine, passed away peacefully on Monday, the 28th day of October, 2019, at Elkhart Oaks Care Center.  She was born on the 13th day of March, 1926, in Palestine, Texas, to Leo Fredrick King and Eleanor Hearn King.

Mrs. Douthit was very intelligent.  She graduated from Palestine High School in 1943, at the age of 16.  She worked as a bookkeeper and as a library aide for Palestine High School for many years.  Mrs. Douthit enjoyed reading, was a talented seamstress, and took pleasure in quilting.   

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Valton West (1967) and Leland Douthit (2016); daughter, Milliene Barr; sister, Luna Leggit; brothers, Leo F. King Jr., Bill Askew, and Jim Meese; and 2 great-grandsons.

Mrs. Douthit is survived by her daughter Lillie Broughton and husband Mike of Grapeland; step-children, Charles Douthit, Pat Douthit Green, Betty Wortham and Marsha Snow Sanchez; grandchildren, Larry Pelham and Lillene Crum; 11 step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by 2 nephews.

Graveside services for Mrs. Douthit are to be conducted at half past eleven o’clock in the morning, on Wednesday, the 30th day of October, 2019, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart with Rev. Bill Rodgers officiating.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from ten o’clock until eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 30th day of October at Rhone Funeral Home.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mrs. Douthit’s memory can be directed towards a charity of choice.
