Larry Wayne Batts, age 65, of Palestine, departed this life for his heavenly home on Tuesday, the 22nd day of January, 2019 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas. He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Wiley Batts and June Hawkins Batts on the 10th day of April, 1953. Following high school, Larry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During that time he received several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Sharpshooter award. After returning home from the service, he obtained his degree in computer programming and went on to have a successful career. Larry was a genuinely compassionate and generous person. He participated in “Toys for Tots” every year and loved to spend time with his family. Larry took pleasure in bowling and riding his motorcycle.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents Wiley and June Batts; brother, David Batts; and niece, Lourie Ann Batts.
He is survived by his daughter Misty Batts and Justin McMillan of Clarksville, Texas; son, Stephen Batts and wife Lisa Marie of Anna, Texas; brothers, Keith Batts and wife Melva of Hooks, Texas, Glenn Batts and wife Carol of Las Vegas, Nevada and Scott Batts and wife Cathy of Irving, Texas; sister-in-law, Kathy Batts of Wake Village, Texas; grandchildren, Elowen Batts and Romilly Batts of Anna, Texas, Cynthia McMillan and Alexander McMillan of Clarksville, Texas; lifelong friend, Steve Petrovich and wife Shirley of Palestine, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
A memorial service and celebration of Larry Batts’s life will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 25th day of January, 2019 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Keith Batts officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service at Rhone Funeral Home.
