Rachel “Grandma” Vega, age 77, of Palestine, surrounded by her loving family was called home on Thursday, the 12th day of September, 2019. She was born on the 22nd day of December, 1941, in Luling, Texas, to Juan Corpus and Eulalia Dominga Flores Corpus.
Mrs. Vega, better known as “Grandma Rachel”, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking their favorite meals. She also enjoyed spoiling her beloved puppy, “Chiquita”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Eulalia Corpus; husband, Hilario Vega; daughter, Rosemary Ferguson; son, Robert Joe Vega; and brother, Manuel Corpus.
Mrs. Vega is survived by her daughters, Esther Hernandez and Vicente of Jacksonville, Suzanna Villasana of Palestine; son, Larry Vega, Jr. and Rosemary of Palestine; siblings, Ted Corpus and Frances of Austin, Mary Rodriguez and Bartolo of Palestine, Pila Gonzales of North Carolina, Juan Corpus and Doris of Palestine, Lupe Moreno and Chano of Palestine, Jose Corpus and Felipa of Palestine; 12 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Sunday, the 15th day of September, 2019, at Rhone Funeral Home.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Vega will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 16th day of September, 2019, at Cornerstone Worship Center with David Malone officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Armando Jimenez, Sergio Jimenez, Juan Vega, Chris Gonzales, Chris Hull, Jose Corpus and Juan Corpus. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Vega, Jr., Manuel Mansur, Marcus Hernandez, V, Marcus Hernandez, IV, Matthew Hernandez, Carlos Hull, Nathan Vega and Stephen Vega.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mrs. Vega’s memory can be directed towards National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd., Unit 300, Frisco, Texas 75034.
