Wayne Franklin, Sr.

Garland Wayne Franklin, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, the 21st day of August, 2019, at his home in Grapeland, Texas, at the age of 82.  He was born on the 11th day of August, 1937, in Anderson County, to Garland Franklin and Maudie Lee Chaffin Franklin.

Mr. Franklin raised cattle and was retired from the Texas Department of Transportation, after 25 years of service.  He loved the Lord and his family.  He was a member of Sand Flat Missionary Baptist Church for 69 years and served as a Deacon for 40 of those years.  Mr. Franklin was involved in the community and served on the Slocum School Board for several years.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Garland Wayne Franklin, Jr., son-in-law Louis Johnson and brothers, William Coleman Franklin and James Frank Franklin, Sr.

Mr. Franklin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carrie Ann Haltom Franklin; daughters, Wanda Ann Prejean and husband Wade, Angela Johnson; son, James Neal Franklin; sister, Veda Muriel Lipscomb; grandchildren, Garland Wayne Franklin, III, Jessica Lynn Powers, Justin Wayne Powers, Christi Leeann Camp, Andrea Layne McGuire and William Louis Johnson, II; 10 great-grandchildren; nephew, David Franklin and wife Sheri; and special grandchildren, Deborah Flanagan and Diana Franklin.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Thursday, the 22nd day of August, 2019, in the Parlor and Reflection Room of Rhone Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Wayne Franklin will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon, on Friday, the 23rd day of August, 2019, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Bro. David Franklin and Bro. Dustin Holcomb officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are David Flanagan, Damon Carnes, Garland Wayne Franklin, III, William Louis Johnson, II, Corey McGuire and Brandon Camp.  Honorary pallbearers will be Don Mays, Bernie Dodd, Haskell Carnes and Edwin Ellis.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mr. Franklin’s memory can be directed towards Sand Flat Missionary Baptist Church, 6977 FM 2022, Grapeland, Texas 75844.
