Albert Houston Rich Jr.

Albert Houston Rich, Jr., known affectionately to friends and family as Al, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Sunday, the 21st day of April 2024, at Christus Mother Frances in Tyler, Texas. Born on the 19th day of May 1960, in Houston, Texas, to parents Albert Houston Rich and Melba Ruth Thompson. He was a man whose life was characterized by kindness, an adventurous spirit, and a warm friendliness that drew people to him.

Al's journey through life was as rich and varied as the interests that captivated his curiosity and passion. Whether he was working with his hands on intricate leather crafts, perfecting the art of wine making, delving into the depths of history, exploring the wonders of the ocean through scuba diving and kayaking, or creating culinary delights in the kitchen, Al approached every endeavor with enthusiasm and a desire to share his joys with those around him.

Al's presence was a gift to those who knew him, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life was truly remarkable. His kind heart and friendly demeanor made him a pillar in his community and a trusted friend to many. Those who had the pleasure of accompanying Al on his adventures knew that his zest for life was contagious and that he was always ready to embark on a new journey, whether it was diving into the unknown or simply enjoying a quiet moment with loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ruth Rich.

Above all, Al cherished the time spent with his beloved work family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his wife of ten years, Wendy Bivens, his son, Charles Rich and wife Ailed; stepson David Griffin and wife Martha; stepdaughter Alexandra Jordan. Al's role as a grandfather was one of his greatest joys, and he will be fondly remembered by his eight grandchildren, who will carry forward the stories and lessons he shared.

A Celebration of Life Service in memory of Al Rich’s life is to be conducted at four o’clock in the afternoon, on Sunday, the 28th day of April 2024 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel.

Friends are invited to visit with the family and share fond memories one hour prior to the start of service.

The family will host an informal celebration of Al’s life on his birthday, May 19, 2024, at a location and time to be determined.
