Alvin Henry Henley Jr., of Magnolia, TX passed away peacefully in Grinnell, Iowa with family by his side on Wednesday the 12th day of March 2025. “Papa” as he was lovingly known, was called to rest into God’s loving arms at the age of 78. He was born in Manhattan, New York on the 23rd day of April 1946 to Alvin Henry Henley Sr. and Eva Josephine Marsh Henley.
Alvin was a man of extraordinary character, whose gentle nature, unwavering work ethic, and kind heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He led with a quiet strength and his deep love for God and his family were the foundation of his life. Not only was he a “Papa”, but he was a dedicated “husband”, a caring “dad”, and if you talked to Bryce… an awesome “Grandfather”.
Papa never lost his passion for learning. He was always seeking more knowledge and wisdom with his Bible and a good book in hand. In every conversation with him, he managed to sneak in a tidbit of trivia and a quick witted joke to make you happier and smarter at the same time! A few of the many things that brought joy to his life were his love of music, a good football game, and a country western movie, starring John Wayne. However, the thing he cherished most was the time he spent bonding with his family, and keeping those connections strong. He was always there to offer the best advice and support when you needed it most. He was so incredibly loved and his memory will be held close in our hearts forever.
Alvin’s legacy will be cherished and carried on by those who loved him most. He leaves behind his daughters Kristie Daily along with her husband Tom, and Cyndi Hey; sons, Alvin Henry Henley III, and Perry Henley; sixteen grandchildren, including Alvin Henley IV, Sabrina Henley, James Daily, Amanda Duran, Alyssa Henley, Samantha Henley, Perry Henley Jr., Peyton Henley, Trenton Schuman, Melissa Henley, Morgan Uhl, Bryce Hey II, Bradley Hey, and Madison Hey; seventeen great-grandchildren, including, Madalynn Briggs, Bella Briggs, Tatum Henley, Sterling Bushong, Jasper Head, Dallas Head, Colton Head, and Gracelynn Uhl; and one great-great-grandchild, Fayah Briggs. Alvin also leaves behind many other family members and a multitude of friends that he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Henley Sr. and Eva Marsh Henley, his grandson CJ, and his cherished wife, Doris Jean Cole Henley, with whom he spent 58 wonderful years of marriage.
