Antoinette (Toni) Ginette Johnson, of Palestine, passed away on Saturday, the 1st day of May 2021, at the age of 86. Antoinette Guillot was born on the 20th day of February 1935, one of 10 children, to Louis and Yvonne Guillot, in Paris, France. She grew up in Paris and helped her parents with their vineyard before she left home and started working at the Air Force base in Chateauroux, France. There, she met Doyle Johnson in 1956 and the two were united in marriage on the 29th day of November 1957. The couple soon welcomed their first daughter Patricia and then came to the United States on the 8th day of May 1960. They were stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and welcomed their first son, Mark. Doyle was soon discharged from the Air Force in May of 1964 and moved his family to Texas, where the couple welcomed their daughter Tammie and their son John. The couple settled down in East Texas soon after.
Antoinette was a homemaker, Certified Nurses Aide (with numerous nursing homes in the East Texas area) and also a care giver to multiple families and homes. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and genuinely enjoyed it when her family would get together for weekend visits and holidays. Antoinette loved to sew, bake, and cook for her family and friends, especially homemade pies, breads, and her famous pound cake. One could always catch her working in the garden and caring for her numerous Tulip and Crape Myrtle Trees, along with her Ivy’s and Elephant Ears. She also enjoyed sitting on her front porch watching the squirrels, Blue Jays, Robins and Hummingbirds come into her yard, alongside her dog, Tuff.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of more than 40 years, Doyle Johnson; and her granddaughter, Carmen Morris.
Antoinette is survived by her four children; Patricia Anderson of Longview, Mark Johnson and his wife Keli of Neches, Tammie Johnson of Palestine, and John Johnson of Palestine; grandchildren, Joshua Graham, Kristy Rhyne, Michelle Jolley, Jennifer Rhyne, Chase Johnson, Tracy Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Donavyn Jolley, Joseph Rhyne, Zoey Johnson, Kaydin Morris, Karson Morris, Carmen Kramer, T.J. Jolley, Raelynn Coleman and a host of other family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Tuesday, the 4th day of May 2021 at Rhone Funeral Home.
