Arvis William Waldon, Jr., age 82, of Trinity, Texas, was called home to his Savior on Thursday, the 15th day of August 2024. He was born on the 26th day of August 1941 in Houston, Texas to parents Arvis William Waldon, Sr. and Norma Virginia Atkins. Mr. Waldon's journey began with his commitment to education, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, a field in which he would invest his professional life with dedication and honor.
Mr. Waldon's career was marked by his significant contributions to the criminal justice prison system, where he served with distinction as a Major at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) before his well-deserved retirement. His work ethic and leadership were a testament to the discipline and values he upheld; traits undoubtedly forged during his four years of service in the United States Marine Corps. His time in the Marines imbued him with a sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.
A man of deep faith, Mr. Waldon was a devoted member of Trinity Church of Christ, where he found solace and strength in his community. His spiritual life was a cornerstone that guided him in his daily interactions and provided comfort during life's trials and tribulations.
Mr. Waldon's interests painted the picture of a man who cherished the simple pleasures in life. He found joy in watching the news, staying informed, and engaged with the world around him. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for gardening, hunting, and fishing—activities that reflected his connection to nature and his self-sufficient spirit. Mr. Waldon was the epitome of a jack of all trades, his hands as capable as his mind was sharp.
Mr. Waldon's life was a tapestry woven with threads of dedication, service, and love. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the indelible impact he has made on the lives of many. His spirit will continue to guide us, as bright and steadfast as the legacy he leaves behind including his wife of over 65 years, Nell Rhea Waldon; daughters, Dandy Estrada and Kandy Hassell; sister, Norma Mullican; and his brother, Paul Waldon. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, all of whom he adored, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Mr. Waldon joins in Heaven his parents Arvis and Norma Waldon; and his brothers, Norman Waldon, Jerry Waldon, Tommy Waldon, and Dickey Waldon.
