Berthold "Bert" Neugebauer

Berthold “Bert” Neugebauer, Jr., age 70, of Elkhart, Texas, was called to his eternal home in Heaven on Thursday, the 15th day of February 2023.  He was born in San Antonio, Texas on the 8th day of March 1952 to parents Berthold Neugebauer, Sr. and Albena Keller Neugebauer.

Bert was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He and his wife were youth ministers in the church for many years. After high school Bert joined the United States Air Force. He loved serving his country. After leaving the Air Force Bert had a 20-year career working for Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Michael Unit. He was loved by all who had the opportunity to work with him.

 He was a good, genuine man with a humble heart. Bert had a love to help others and was part of the Watch Dogs on the Elkhart Elementary campus. He was well known for his cookies he would bake and take to his friends and family. Bert was also a member of Knights of Columbus in Palestine. He loved his family dearly and he always supported his grandchildren at all their school activities and sporting events. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed farming, planting trees, and playing in the dirt. Bert’s presence will always be felt in the lives of those who loved him.

Bert joins in Heaven his parents Berthold Neugebauer, Sr.  and Albena Neugebauer.

Left with beautiful memories that will forever be cherished are his loving wife of 51 years Helen Neugebauer; sons, Frank Neugebauer and wife Nicole, and Tommy Neugebauer and wife Jessica; sister, Lorine Corn and husband Steve; brothers, Paul Neugebauer, John Neugebauer, Mark Neugebauer and wife Cindy, and David Neugebauer; grandchildren, Kensi Neugebauer, Mason Neugebauer, Mark David Neugebauer, and John Thomas Neugebauer; sister-in-law, Donna Neefe and husband Bob. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The recitation of the Holy Rosary in honor of Bert Neugebauer is to commence at six o’clock in the evening, on Tuesday, the 21st day of February 2023 at Rhone Funeral Home, immediately following friends are invited to visit with the family from half past six until eight o’clock in the evening.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials in memory of Bert Neugebauer can be directed towards Elkhart Jerry Ives Scholarship fund or Elkhart FFA Booster Club, 9002 State Hwy 19, Elkhart, Texas 75839.
