Betty Jean Shiflet, a 21-year resident of Palestine and 89 years of age, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, the 7th day of July 2020. She was born on the 20th day of December 1930, in Commerce, Texas to Earl Gordon Winton and Elmer Horton.
Betty was united in marriage with Billy Joe Shiflet on April 30, 1948. Not long after, they moved to Borger, Texas and a few years later to Stinnett Texas, where they raised their four children. Bill and Betty were missionaries in Virginia where she taught quilting so that the ladies there could earn an income. In 1999, they moved to Palestine, Texas where she immediately started quilting classes. Her passion was sewing, and her talent was quilting and teaching quilting. She also was a great Bible study teacher.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Elmer Winton; husband, Bill Shiflet; and siblings, James Winton, Earl Gordon Winton, Jr., Otis Winton, Billy Joe Winton, Bobby Don Winton, Martha Sue Winton and Darel Winton.
She is survived by her 4 children, Linda Sue Ormston and husband Jeff of Graham, Donald Glen Shiflet of Palestine, Robin Dianne Shiflet of Palestine, and Jerry Lee Shiflet of Conroe; five grandchildren, Deidria Dawn Allen and husband Bubba of Borger, Cody Shiflet and wife Madeline of Borger, (Billy) Ignacio William Perez and wife Melissa of Wortham, Jason Manies and wife Vickie of Houston, and Josh Manies of Houston; great-grandchildren, Lynn, Ethan, Seth, Grafton, Mylynn, and D'Angelo Allen of Borger, Christopher and wife Tambra, Daniel, Anthony, Ethan, and Cash Perez of Wortham, Sawyer and Audrey Manies of Houston; and her two great-great-grandchildren, Peyton Grace and Greyson William Perez.
A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Shiflet’s life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 9th day of July 2020, at First Baptist Church of Elkhart with Pastor Jason Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Park.
