Bill Brown Obituary

Willam James Brown, of Palestine, Texas, affectionately known to family and friends as Bill passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, the 7th day of October 2024, at the age of 69.  He was born in Palestine, Texas, on the 24th day of October 1954 to parents Floyd Brown and Vera Keesler Davis. Bill, a proud graduate of Westwood High School's class of 1973, lived a life marked by dedication and service, both in his professional and personal endeavors.  For over four decades, Bill was a steadfast presence at Atmos Energy, where he worked as an equipment operator then meter reader. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and diligence, someone who brought not just his skills but also his heart to his work every day.

Beyond his professional life, Bill was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were cornerstones of his life. His commitment to service shone brightly through his active participation in the Evening Lions Club, where he worked tirelessly to better the lives of those around him.

Bill's interests were as rich and varied as his contributions to his community. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace and joy in fishing and hunting. His garden was a testament to his patience and care, flourishing under his skilled hands as he grew a variety of vegetables. A gifted cook, Bill was renowned for his fried fish—a specialty that brought family and friends together around his table.

Perhaps most dear to Bill was the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was not just a Paw Paw but a mentor and teacher, imparting his knowledge of gardening and his love for the earth to the younger generation. His lessons went beyond the soil, as he nurtured their growth with the same love and attention he gave to his plants.

Generous, friendly, and loving—these words encapsulate the essence of Bill. His presence could light up a room, and his kindness touched the lives of many. Bill's legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew him, much like the gardens he tended with such care. He will be deeply missed, yet fondly remembered as a man who lived his life with purpose and love.

Bill leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Kathleen Brown; children, Gina Shook and husband Stephen, of Palestine, Texas, Jarod Brown and wife Amanda, of Krum, Texas, Kristin Ryal and husband Jonathan, of Tyler, Texas, and Jonathan Kelly, of Bonham, Texas.  He is also survived by his sisters, Janet McCreary and Nancy Lampo, both of Palestine, Texas, and Joyce Brown, of Syracuse, New York.  Bill’s grandchildren, Jackson Ryal, Reagan Ryal, Olivia Brown, McKinley Ryal, and Ashlynn Shook, brought him immense joy and he will be dearly missed, along with many other family members and friends.  Bill is preceded in death by his parents Floyd Brown and Vera Davis, and his sister, Pat Jones.

A Celebration of Life service is to commence at half-past three o’clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 12th day of October 2024 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel.  Bro. Lynn Stroud will be officiating the service.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning one hour prior to the start of the service at Rhone Funeral Home.

Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Curtis Frazier, Larry Fields, Rusty Davis, Mike Brown, Glen Lowery, Riley Emter, Wayne Olver, Glenn Ray, Rod Ellenburg, and the Atmos Energy work crew.
