Bradley Allen Sutton, of Palestine, Texas, passed away tragically in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, the 18th day of May 2024, at the age of 54. Born on the 5th day of March 1970, in Miami County, Indiana, he was the cherished son of Jerry Allen Sutton and Suzanne Sutton. Brad grew into a man of remarkable character, defined by his loving nature, adventurous spirit, and courageous heart.
A graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Brad served his country with honor and distinction for 23 years. As an active duty solider (1991-1997) he trained as a mechanic and welder while stationed in West Germany. Upon leaving full time active-duty service, he joined the Texas National Guard while working full time as a Correctional Officer at TDCJ. While serving with the Texas National Guard, he was deployed to Iraq during the Iraqi Freedom campaign (2003-2004) and later deployed to Egypt (2015 and 2020). After 12 years with TDCJ, he entered the Texas Department of Public Safety Training Academy and graduated as a State Trooper in 2010 with honors and was chosen to be the Sergeant at Arms for his graduating class. He continued serving with DPS full-time until his retirement from DPS and the Texas National Guard in 2023, upon which he returned to TDCJ as a Retention Officer. Brad's work ethic, leadership, and camaraderie were an inspiration to his work family, and his absence will leave an irreplaceable void in the many lives he touched.
Brad's zest for life was as vast as the outdoors he so loved. He was an excellent mechanic, a skill he applied with enthusiasm to his many hobbies, including riding motorcycles, enjoying mud parks, and participating in cannonball runs. He was also a member of the Crusaders Union Motorcycle Club, and his adventurous spirit was matched only by his courage and the love he held for his family, friends, and his beloved dogs over the years.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Brad would describe him as a man with the biggest heart. He loved everyone unconditionally and was a great friend to many. His laughter, warmth, and the stories of his adventures will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all.
Brad's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 17 years, Shawna Sutton, a role model to his children, and a pillar of strength to all who knew him. Brad leaves behind a legacy of love and service, including his parents, Jerry and Suzanne Sutton; his son, Chase Allen Sutton and wife Courtney, stepsons, Dustin Ray Platt and wife Brianne, and Zachary Cameron Bynum and wife Lynette; his sister, Stacy Sutton Kerby and husband Kelly; as well as his treasured grandchildren, Keaten Sutton, Wesley Bynum, Harper Platt, Waylon Platt, and Kash Platt. Each of his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, brought him immeasurable joy along with a host of other family members and friends. He was preceded by his grandparents, Beatrice and Doyle Singleton.
