Brenda Carol (Leamons) Russell

Brenda Carol Russell, age 73, of Grapeland, Texas, passed away suddenly in an automobile accident on Friday, the 4th day of October 2024.  She was 73 years old at the time of her passing.  Ms. Russell was born on the 26th day of May 1951, to parents Leon Cutler Leamons and Emily “Bernice” Jordan. 

Ms. Russell was born in Grapeland, Texas, and returned to live close to her family after her retirement.  A lifelong advocate for knowledge, Ms. Russell retired as the head librarian from TLL Temple Memorial Library in Diboll, Texas, after an impressive 40-year tenure. Her dedication to the written word and the education of others was surpassed only by the love she had for her family and friends.

Ms. Russell's journey in academia was marked by her commitment to learning, culminating in the achievement of her master's degree. Her intelligence and passion for knowledge were evident in every aspect of her career and continued personal pursuits. As a devoted member of Sunset Christian Church, she embodied the values of faith and community, always extending a helping hand and a warm smile to those around her.

Her interests were as vast as the library she so meticulously cared for. A voracious reader, she loved to explore all kinds of books, delving into different worlds and times through the pages. History and artifacts held a special place in her heart, as did the pursuit of genealogy. Ms. Russell was deeply interested in her family's lineage, dedicating countless hours to tracing and preserving their legacy for future generations.

Those who knew Ms. Russell will remember her as the epitome of kindness, a loving soul whose generosity knew no bounds. Her intelligence was matched only by her capacity for empathy, making her a treasured friend and mentor to many.

Ms. Russell's legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched, and her memory will be cherished and kept alive by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Russell; son, John Russell and fiancé Laura Taylor; sister, Lesia Beard and husband Steve; grandchildren, Matt Russell and Taylor Weeks; and five great-grandchildren.  Ms. Russell also leaves behind aunts, Mary Beth Lucas and Myra Kelley; uncle, Raymond Jordan and wife Francis; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Ms. Russell is preceded in death by her parents Leon and Bernice Leamons; husband, W.J. Russell; and her brother, Gary Lee Leamons.

The family will host a celebration of life service to honor Brenda Russell’s life at two o’clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 19th day of October 2024 at Sunset Christian Church in Grapeland, Texas.
