Charles Peter Bridges

Charles Peter Bridges, age 92, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on his birthday at home, on Friday, the 10th day of May, 2019.  He was born on the 10th day of May, 1927, in Elkhart, Texas, to Peter Bridges and Dora Kyle Bridges. 

Mr. Bridges was retired from Anderson County Precinct 1 and a member of First United Methodist Church in Elkhart.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and took pleasure in watching his grandchildren and other kids play sports for Elkhart ISD.   Mr. Bridges and his wife, Billie, were avid Elkhart High School football fans.  They watched over 700 varsity football games together during his lifetime.   

He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Dora Bridges; sisters, Virginia Brown and Vernita Bridges; brothers, Jim Bridges, Lewis Bridges and Lee Bridges; and one grandson, Cory Blackmon.

Mr. Bridges is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years, Billie Gammage Bridges; daughter, Pam Blackmon and husband Pat of Elkhart; sons, Ronny Bridges and wife Karen, Larry Bridges and wife Belinda, Eddie Bridges and wife Nita, all of Elkhart; grandchildren, Monica Davis, Tracy Wilson, Matt Bridges, Penny Estes, Mandy Walker, Ryan Blackmon, Jordan Blackmon and Lance Bridges; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Sunday, the 12th day of May, 2019, in the Reflection Room and Parlor of Rhone Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Charles Bridges will be conducted at half-past three o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 13th day of May, 2019 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Bro. David Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the Pilgrim Cemetery, Elkhart, Texas.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons, Matt Bridges, Lance Bridges, John Wilson, Joe Estes, Phillip Davis, Ryan Blackmon, Jordan Blackmon and Dewayne Walker.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Chaffin and Truman Starr.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be directed towards the Cory Blackmon Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 247, Elkhart, Texas 75839.
