Charles Myers Obituary

Charles Edgar Myers, known lovingly as Charlie, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, the 9th day of November 2023, at the age of 90. He was born on the 26th day of January 1933, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to parents Perryman Myers and Loran Wallace Myers. Charlie lived a long and fulfilling life, touching the lives of many with his thoughtful and loving nature.

Charlie was a proud veteran, having served his country in the United States Army. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career, as he was known for his selfless acts within his community. He was a regular volunteer at the Stock Pot, where he found joy in helping others. Charlie also had a special place in his heart for his fellow veterans. He took it upon himself to drive them to their doctor's appointments in Temple, turning the journeys into enjoyable outings with games of 42. Charlie was a man of great heart, a description lovingly bestowed upon him by his daughter, Wanda.

His love for the game of 42 was well-known in the community. Charlie was a regular at the YMCA, where he would often be found engaged in a spirited game. He was a hands-on kind of guy, always ready to lend a hand or share a joke, making him a beloved figure wherever he went.

Charlie was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Palestine. He served as a Deacon, a role that perfectly suited his friendly and welcoming nature. He held a deep respect for others, always holding the door for women and greeting everyone with a warm smile. His kindness and thoughtfulness were the hallmarks of his character, making him a cherished member of the congregation.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Perryman and Loran Myers; loving wife, Marjorie DeFore Myers; sister, Bonnie Myers; brothers, Perry Myers and Doyle Myers, and his grandchild, Caleb Caruthers.

Charlie was a loving and dedicated father to his children, Wanda Jean Callaway and Donald Ray Myers. He was a pillar of strength and support to them, always guiding them with his wisdom and unwavering love. His daughter Wanda and her husband, John, and his son Donald and his wife, Kay Lynn, are left to cherish his memory, along with his siblings, Suzette, Claudette, and Kenneth. He adored his grandchildren, Donald Charles Myers and his wife Tiffany, Joshua Caruthers and his wife Alex, Erica Jean and Taylor Sunday. His love extended to his great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Joseph, Cash, Norah Jean, Sadie, and Luna. He took great delight in their achievements and was always there to offer his support and love. Even in his final days, Charlie remained grateful, his love for his family shining through.

A memorial service to honor Charlie’s life with military honors is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning, on Thursday, the 16th day of November 2023, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Bro. Tony Watson officiating the service.
