Charles "Charlie" Conaway Obituary

Charles “Charlie” Nolan Conaway, age 80, of Grapeland, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, the 8th day of June 2026. He was born on the 23rd day of January 1946 to parents Elmer Ray Conaway and Ellen Parker Conaway, in Houston, Texas.     

Charles proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He spent more than 30 years traveling throughout the country as a truck driver. He was a skilled mechanic who enjoyed working on trucks and had a great sense of humor and a quick wit that brought laughter to those around him.

In his free time, Charles enjoyed reading Western and science fiction books and had a special gift for gardening. He truly had a green thumb and took pride in growing plants. Charles was a member of the American Legion Post 134 of Crockett, Texas. He valued the many friendships he made there and enjoyed spending time with his fellow veterans and friends.

Above all, Charles loved his family and friends. He cherished the time he spent with them and valued the relationships he built throughout his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, his hardworking spirit, his humor, and the love he shared with those who knew him.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Ellen Conaway, and sister, Neda Lou Conaway.

He leaves behind his son, Charles “Chuck” Conaway, Jr.; grandchildren, Charles “Nolan” Conaway, III, Chancey Leigh Sims, Izabella Lee Conaway; two great-grandchildren; niece, Tiffany Kincaid; great niece, Heather August, and many friends who will miss him dearly.

Graveside services to celebrate Charles Conaway’s life are to be conducted at nine o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 12th day of June 2026 at Weches Cemetery, 300 County Road 1580, Grapeland, Texas 75844 with Nathan Rodriguez officiating the service.

Honorary pallbearers include his friends at the American Legion Post 134.
