Charlie Manning Obituary

Charlie Lee Manning left this Earth to be with our Father in Heaven on Thursday the 30th day of March 2023, with his loving family by his side at the age of 89. Mr. Manning was born in Crockett, Texas on the 31st day of August 1933, to parents John Henry Manning, Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Alderman Manning.

Mr. Manning loved people and always had a big smile to match his big heart.  Anyone who knew him would say he was a great friend that would be there for you at any given moment.  He had a great sense of humor and loved to crack jokes with his grandchildren.  Mr. Manning was a true family man that devoted his life to caring for his wife and three children.  He was elated when his grandchildren were born and from that day forward was affectionately known as “Papa”.

Before retiring in 1993, he worked in the mechanics department for several different companies.  Mr. Manning was brilliant when it came to mechanisms.  He could fix anything, and he didn’t mind helping others who were not as talented.  He was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Elkhart. Mr. Manning was a dedicated member who loved his church family.  He also served around the church in various aspects that did not go unnoticed.

Mr. Manning enjoyed being in the great outdoors.  His hobbies included hunting and playing golf.  Mr. Manning brought joy to many people and will be missed until the day we are all reunited in Heaven.

In Heaven, he joins his parents, John and Annie Manning; sister, Sue Marie Cain; and his brothers, John Henry, Jr., David Manning, and Billy Ray Manning.

Left to cherish Mr. Manning’s memory are his precious wife of 71 years, Melissa “Jean” Manning; daughters, Cynthia Kaye Young and husband Eddie, and Anita “Gayle” Rogers and husband Lowell, all of Elkhart, Texas; son, Charles Preston Manning and wife Ann, of Asheville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Leo James “Jamie” Beck, Kevin Wayne Marak, Jason Leith Beck, Eric Wayne Marak, Christopher Wayne Marak, and Sarah Elizabeth Sparrowhawk. He also leaves behind fourteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and lifelong friends.

Funeral services to honor Charlie Manning’s life are to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 3rd day of April 2023 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jason Hoffman officiating the service.  Interment will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery in Elkhart, Texas.

Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the start of the service at Rhone Funeral Home.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Mr. Manning’s grandsons, Jamie Beck, Kevin Marak, Jason Beck, Eric Marak, Christopher Marak, and Jack Sparrowhawk.
