Christopher Dewan Brockway was born the third of seven children of Richard Thomas and Ruth Dewan Brockway. Growing up in the Central Coast town of Arroyo Grande, Chris graduated from St. Patrick’s Elementary School and then in 1970 from Mission High School in San Luis Obispo, the last class to graduate before the school was closed. Initially believing he had a call to serve as a Catholic Priest, he attended for one year at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, CA, and God pointed him in a different direction. Finishing college at Fresno State University with a degree in criminology, he later earned a Masters in Public Administration from Golden Gate University.
Chris began his career in law enforcement – to serve and protect – as a Deputy for the Fresno County Sheriff, and later as an officer for the Grover City Police Department and the St. Helena Police Department. He then served as a Supervisor for Napa County Correction Department for many years. His skills proved invaluable to Reno as a security supervisor for the Sparks-Reno Convention Center as well as resorts such as the Silver Legacy and the Nugget, for the latter as Security Director, and from which he had recently retired. Still in service to others he worked as a personnel and staffing Team Leader for Covid relief efforts in Texas where he was working when he passed away.
Chris found strength in family and faith. A volunteer in several organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and coaching Little League gave him the opportunity to give back to his community. He cherished family above all and felt very blessed to have shared his life with wife Dulce and her daughters Hannah, Ruth and Naomi. He loved spending time with his son Tim and daughter Amanda and their families. He was always so proud of their accomplishments and considered himself a rich man by their presence.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Katherine, and his sister Kathleen Marie Brockway-Tognazzini. He is survived by his wife Dulce Nicolas Brockway, daughters Hannah Monteagudo, Ruth Nicolas Brockway and Naomi Nicolas Brockway; son Tim (Gina) Brockway and grandsons Devin and Braden; daughter Amanda Brockway and grandson Gunnar and granddaughter Melia; brothers Mike, Dennis (Mavi), Rick, Dave (Jamie) and Scott.
