David Hulsey Obituary

David Michael Hulsey, of Palestine, Texas, left this earth for his heavenly home on Sunday, the 12th day of January 2025, at the age of 84.  He entered the world on the 26th day of November 1940 in Empire, Alabama to parents Labra Allen Hulsey and Rosalind Speigle Hulsey.  Mr. Hulsey was a man of quiet strength and profound intelligence; his life was proof to the values he held dear.

Born in Alabama and raised in Houston, Texas, Mr. Hulsey was a proud veteran who served his country with honor in the United States Navy. His dedication to his nation was matched only by his commitment to his professional life. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston, he embarked on a career as a draftsman, a role in which his meticulous nature and keen eye for detail were greatly valued. Later in life due to his desire to help others, he earned his master’s degree in psychology from Houston Baptist University.  Six years ago, he made the move to Palestine, Texas, a place he grew to love and call home.

Mr. Hulsey was a man of deep faith, often found what gave him some of his greatest joy studying his Bible and engaging in thoughtful discussions about life's profound questions. He was an introvert at heart, yet his love for meaningful conversation drew others to him, making him an interesting and engaging companion.

Those who knew Mr. Hulsey will remember him as an individual, whose intelligence and faith shone through in everything he did. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasure of being with his loved ones, his adored wife Geni and especially his stepson Jason, with whom he shared a special bond.

As we bid farewell to David Michael Hulsey, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. His memory will continue to inspire and influence all who were fortunate enough to know him. Mr. Hulsey's journey on earth may have concluded, but the impact of his life's story will resonate for generations to come.

Mr. Hulsey is preceded in death by his parents Labra and Rosalind Hulsey; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harris and Juanita Mullins; son, David M. Hulsey, II “Chip”; and his brother, Tommy Hulsey.

His family was the foundation of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He is survived by his beloved wife, Geni Hulsey, and his stepson and daughter-in-law, Jason and Marla Naylor of Palestine, Texas, who will miss his guiding presence and unwavering support.  Mr. Hulsey also leaves behind his brother Paul Hulsey and wife Linda of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Amber Naylor, Anita Rocheford, Allyson Naylor; nephew, Jeremy Hulsey; and numerous other family members and a host of friends.

Funeral services to honor the life of David Hulsey are to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 18th day of January 2025 at Norwood Heights Baptist Church, 2214 State Highway 155, Palestine, Texas, with Dr. Matthew Timmons officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
