On Thanksgiving Day, November 24th, 2022, David Harold Mathis, husband, father, grandfather, and cherished family member passed from this life at the age of 63.
David was born on June 18th, 1959, to parents Charles Edwin and Virginia Kathryn (Phillips) Mathis in Bryan, Texas. Shortly after his younger brother John was born, the family moved to Palestine, Texas. David attended primary school through high school in Palestine. During high school, he enlisted in the Marines. Throughout his entire life, he was an avid supporter of the Marines. OORAH!
David had a passion for hunting, fishing, and had an extensive collection of guns. David was a hard worker from a very young age and never made excuses when there was a job to be done. David was a kind-hearted soul that would give the shirt off his back to a stranger, if they were in need.
David is survived by his wife, Diane Mathis; his daughters, Monica Neusen and Joanna Wilson; and his sons, David Mathis, II, Jeremy Mathis, and Steven McCreary. He has multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren that provided a constant ray of sunshine in his life. He is also survived by a brother, John Mathis, and sister, Elizabeth Clements, and several nieces and nephews. David loved life and loved it to the fullest, even to the very end of his life. David will be deeply missed by his family.
Friends are cordially invited to greet the family and share remembrances during a visitation to be held from six o’clock until eight o’clock in evening on Tuesday, the 29th of November 2022, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel of Rhone Funeral Home.
