Doris Henley Obituary

Doris Jean Henley, of Grapeland, Texas, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Friday, the 23rd day of February 2024.  “Granny” as she was affectionately known, joined her loving Savior in Heaven at the age of 76.  She was born in Poteau, Oklahoma, on the 5th day of August 1947 to parents Andy Herman Cole and Kelsie Kuykendahl Cole.

Born with a heart full of music and hands skilled in the art of sewing, Mrs. Henley wove melodies and garments with equal passion. Her love for her family was her guiding light, and she nurtured her children, Kristie, Cyndi, Alvin, and Perry, with a tenderness that only a mother's love can provide. Her husband, Alvin Henley, stood by her side as a devoted partner for 58 years, sharing in the joys and challenges of a life richly lived.

Mrs. Henley's home was always filled with love and laughter as her family was the cornerstone of her existence. Her joy was further amplified in the quiet moments spent playing solitaire on her computer, where she found a peaceful respite from her busy days, and playing the piano, a hobby she greatly enjoyed.

A woman of extraordinary thoughtfulness, Mrs. Henley's legacy is one of unconditional love and the selfless giving of herself to her family and all children who were graced by her presence. She will be remembered as the embodiment of love, a soul who lived not for herself but for the happiness and well-being of others.

Mrs. Henley's memory will forever be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to feel the warmth of her embrace.  She leaves behind her husband, Alvin Henley, Jr.; daughters, Kristie Daily and her husband Tom, and Cyndi Hey; sons, Alvin Henley III, and Perry Henley; brother, Crawford Cole; sixteen grandchildren, including the two she raised, Alyssa Henley and Samantha Head; seventeen great-grandchildren, including Madalynn Briggs, Bella Briggs, Tatum Henley, and Sterling Bushong, whom she also raised; and one great-great-grandchild on-the-way.  Mrs. Henley also leaves behind many other family members and a multitude of friends that she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents Andy and Kelsie Cole and her sisters, Leta, Mildred, Betty Jo, Frances, Norma, Thelma, and Bonnie Mae.

Graveside services to honor Mrs. Henley’s life are to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon, on Monday, the 26th day of February 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery.
