Edgar Allen Johnson, best known as “Big John”, age 92 of Santa Fe, Texas, passed away on August 14, 2024. Born on April 22, 1932, to Ed Johnson and Gertrude Cobb Johnson of Grayburg, Texas, he graduated from Sour Lake High School and Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas, where he played football on a scholarship. Big John spent a lifetime devoting much of his time as a board member and president of the board for several terms to Santa Fe I.S.D. Along with his community involvement with Little League coaching he was a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia for over 60 years. A devoted husband to his favorite red head, Eloise Tyler Johnson, for 69 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Gertrude Johnson, siblings, Lois Radley, Earnest Johnson, Beth Davis, Lillie Jacobson, and Alma Janice. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Eloise Johnson; son, Tom Johnson and Spring, Connie Davis and Milton, LeeAnn Johnson and Lowell; siblings, James Johnson and wife Nita, Beverly Logsdon and husband Bobby; grandchildren, Josh LeFevre and wife Susan, Cal Johnson, Britt Davis and wife Kristen, and Brad Davis and wife Jenn; and his great-grandchildren, Will, Preston Jet, Isabella, Matthew, Madison, Grant, Brooke, Sommer, and Cannon.
Dad always said he was going to “take his vacation in Heaven”. What a glorious day it will be, going to sit on the banks of the river beneath the shade of the evergreen tree. Enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.
At Mr. Johnson’s request, there will be no services.
