Floyd Dawson Carter, Jr., age 95, of Palestine, Texas, passed away at his home on April 24, 2026. He joins his beloved wife of 70 years, Patsy, in the arms of the Lord.
Born on August 3, 1930, in Cleburne, Texas. Floyd lived a long and meaningful life defined by devotion to his family and his faith, an enduring work ethic, and quiet strength. He graduated from Iola High School in 1948 where he was a proud Bulldog who played football and basketball. He was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served as a Military Policeman at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico during the Korean War.
Following his military service, Floyd and his wife, Patsy, returned to Houston, Texas, where they built their life together serving their church, raising their family, working and creating lasting memories. Floyd enjoyed a long and dedicated career in the oil and gas production industry before retiring.
In retirement, Floyd and Patsy moved to their farm in Gallatin, Texas, where they found great joy in the simple pleasures of country life. Their cherished home, lovingly named the Rocking C Ranch, became a place of peace, pride and togetherness for their family.
Floyd's Christian faith, the Bible, and prayer were all central to how he lived his daily life. He served in many church roles, including Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons and President of the Golden Jubilee seniors group. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Houston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ruth Pitt Carter; his parents, Floyd D. Carter, Sr. and Nettie Irene Waddell Carter; one brother; four sisters; and two sisters-in-law.
Floyd is survived by his three children: Douglas Dawson Carter; Lisa Carter Gray and her husband, Dennis; and Travis Wade Carter and his wife, Christal. He was a proud PawPaw to nine grandchildren—Rachelle Butler, Autumn Hollingsworth, Zach Toombs, Dylan Toombs, Kelsey Samuelson, Travis Carter, Trevor Toombs, Ben Carter, and Sam Carter—and a cherished PawPaw to fourteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Floyd’s life was rooted in faith, family, and a deep sense of responsibility. He took great pride in the generations that followed him, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering devotion. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral services to honor Floyd’s life are to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, May 1, 2026, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow in Roselawn Park, where Floyd will be laid next to his wife.
