Freida Mae Evans, of Elkhart, is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior. Mrs. Evans passed away on Wednesday, the 5th day of August 2020, at The Hospice of East Texas Homeplace in Tyler at the age of 80. She was born on the 17th day of February 1940, in Anderson County, Texas to parents Fred D. Prater and Una Mae Averitte Prater.
Mrs. Evans loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Muse Missionary Baptist Church. Her family captured her heart and her love for them was evident. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids, and often would cook meals for the entire family. Mrs. Evans was a talented quilter and involved with “Sewing Sisters”. She also was very active with the Slocum VFD and helped with the BBQ fundraiser every year.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Una Prater; husband, John E. Evans; sister, Theresa Abernathy; grandson, John Dow IV; and granddaughter, Meagan Eylar.
Mrs. Evans is survived by her daughters Robbin Langston and husband Keith, Stacy Evans; son, John David Evans and wife Vanessa; sister, Rita “Butch” Hillard; brothers-in-law, Charles Abernathy, Larry Evans; sister-in-law, Judy Thompson and husband David; grandsons, Johnathan Bice and wife Julie, Jeb Dow, Jake Evans, Mason Evans, and Hunter Evans; granddaughters, Macy Del Rossi, Tai Evans; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Jordyn Bice and Ryder Dow.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Saturday, the 8th day of August 2020 at Rhone Funeral Home.
A funeral service to celebrate Freida Mae Evans’s life is to be conducted two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 9th day of August 2020, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jamie Hogan, Bro. Davey Hobson and Bro. Jesse Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Strong Cemetery in Slocum.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Johnathan Bice, Jeb Dow, Jake Evans, Mason Evans, Hunter Evans, David Thompson and Larry Evans.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mrs. Evans’s memory can be directed towards Muse Building Fund, 275 CR 1219, Grapeland, Texas 75844.
Due to the present Covid-19 danger, facemasks are required for the visitation and funeral service.
