Gwendolyn Frances Wilson Toombs, age 65, of Tennessee Colony, went to be with the Lord on Friday, the 29th day of January 2021. She was born in Anderson County, on the 12th day of September 1955, to parents Frank “Jack” Durwood Wilson and Maude Evelyn Brown Wilson.
Gwen’s longest and most loved career was as an Optometry Technician at Family Eye Care Clinic in Atlanta, TX, where she worked over 15 years until she moved back home to Palestine, TX. Gwen was kind and beautiful, with her natural platinum hair earning her the nickname “Blondie” from an early age. Gwen loved decorating, fishing, shooting pool, and hosting people and gatherings. She knew how to tell a great story and command the spotlight. She had a knack for repairing most anything and was an incredible seamstress. Gwen loved to shop and could outlast anyone, spending hours at a time in stores. Gwen was a beloved friend, sister, aunt, wife, mom, and loved being a Granny to her two granddaughters. Her presence is greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents Frank “Jack” Wilson and Evelyn Brown Wilson; husbands, Jimmy McClure and Frank Claborn; sister, Charlsie Duncan; brothers, Bill Wilson, Jerry Wilson, and Dwight Wilson.
Gwen leaves behind daughters Lisa McClure of Palestine, Texas and Angela Hale, her husband Jesse and their children, Kayla and Carly, of Pearland, Texas; husband Tommy Toombs and stepchildren Trey and Amanda Toombs; sisters Janella Brittain and husband Richard, Linda Clark, Cindy Bernstein and husband David; brothers Phillip Wilson and Ronnie Wilson; ex-husband Bill Lawrence and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Gwen Toombs life is to be conducted at four o’clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 6th day of February 2021 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories in Elkhart, TX.
Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the commencement of service at Rhone Funeral Home.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jesse Hale, Jimmy Sherman, Phillip McClure, Royce McClure, Landon Stasel and Trey Toombs.
