James Alton Haddock, of Palestine, Texas, a loving and generous man who served his country with honor and distinction, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, the 1st day of June 2023. He was 80 years of age when the Lord called him home. Mr. Haddock was born on the 15th day of November 1942, in Jeffersonville, Georgia, to parents James L. Haddock and Nora Lee Daniel Haddock.
Mr. Haddock proudly served in the United States Marines and was a Vietnam Veteran. During his time in the military, he earned numerous medals for his bravery and commitment to his fellow soldiers. After his service in the Marines, Mr. Haddock continued to support his country as a member of the Army National Guard. His dedication to the armed forces extended beyond his own service, as he later became a recruiter for both the Marines and the Army National Guard. Mr. Haddock's passion for helping others find their path in the military was a testament to his belief in the importance of service and the bonds formed between those who serve.
Throughout his life, Mr. Haddock was deeply committed to his family and friends. He was a loving husband who maintained a strong connection with his spouse during the Vietnam War through heartfelt pen-pal letters. This correspondence not only sustained their love during a difficult time but also served as a testament to the strength of their bond. Mr. Haddock was a devoted father who cherished the time he spent with his children, creating lasting memories through camping trips and other family outings. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and his presence will be sorely missed.
Mr. Haddock was a man of many interests and talents. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping with his family, exploring the beauty of nature, and teaching his children the joys of spending time in the great outdoors. His love for cooking, particularly seafood, was well-known among his friends and family, who eagerly anticipated his delicious meals. Mr. Haddock’s culinary skills were a reflection of his generous nature, as he took great pleasure in sharing his creations with those he loved.
A deeply spiritual man, James was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Elkhart, Texas. His faith played a significant role in his life, guiding him through both challenging and joyous times. Mr. Haddock's commitment to his church and his community was a testament to his kind and generous spirit, as he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
In addition to his military service and personal interests, Mr. Haddock was known for his generosity, kindness, and loving nature. He was a man who put others before himself, always striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those around him. His warm smile and gentle demeanor will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Mr. Haddock’s memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, and his legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire future generations.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Nora Haddock, and his siblings, Juanita Evans, Lanora Hermansacia, Carlton Evans, Henry T. Evans, Henry T. Evans, and Freeman Carlton Evans.
Mr. Haddock leaves behind his devoted wife, Rebecca Haddock; daughters, Stephanie Jane Hill and husband Eric, of Palestine, Texas, Kimberly Kay Vargeson and husband Troy, of Virginia, Alecia Dawn Weng and husband Steve, of Sugar Land, Texas; sons, Brad Haddock and wife Robin, of Walnut Springs, Texas, Kenneth Morgan Lafaytte Haddock and wife Gisela, of San Antonio, Texas, Peter Lawrence Haddock and wife Hazel, of Galveston, Texas, and Quentin Chase Haddock, of Palestine, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Ann Mathis and husband Glen of Wrightsville, Georgia; twenty-one grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren with two on-the-way.
With careful thought and consideration and in accordance to his wishes, Mr. Haddock will be cremated, and the family will have a memorial service at a later date.
