James Singleterry Obituary

James Singleterry, age 85, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away peacefully from natural causes on February 19, 2026 in Seguin, Texas surrounded by his wife, Sandy, and his two sons, Jason and Justin, along with their families.

James was born with his twin sister Connie on October 26, 1940, to John and Ida Singleterry near Tecumseh, Oklahoma. James and his twin sister had five other brothers and sisters, along with three half-sisters.

James graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1958 where he excelled in sports and academics. He lettered in football, basketball, and track. At only 5’9”, he was the captain of the basketball team, and went to state in track, winning numerous ribbons. After graduating high school in 1958, he moved with his siblings to Odessa, Texas.

James served honorably in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962 as an artilleryman while stationed in Germany. After his military service, he went back to Odessa and met Sandy in 1965, where they married in 1966. They had two wonderful sons, Jason in 1972, and Justin 1978.

James worked as a plant operator for El Paso Products (later, Huntsman) for 25 years. After retiring, he and his wife Sandy moved to Palestine, Texas where they remained for over 20 years.

James was a loving husband and devoted father who was committed to his faith in Jesus Christ. He spent much of his free time vacationing with his family, teaching them how to water ski and fish. James also wrote beautiful poetry and was a lover of animals. He continuously was a member of Sherwood Church of Christ while raising his family in Odessa, then a member of Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine after his retirement. He and his wife Sandy had recently moved to New Braunfels, Texas, closer to family, as his health was failing.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandy; and their two sons, Jason (Jennifer) Singleterry of New Braunfels, Texas; and Justin (Kate) Singleterry of Stevensville, Montana; and five grandchildren, Cade, Gus, Emma, Olivia, and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents and all six siblings and three half-siblings.

A celebration of James’s Life is to be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Crockett Road Church of Christ, with Dan Manuel officiating. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family during a reception in the Crockett Road Church of Christ Activity building.
