James “Milton” Herod, age 84, of Elkhart, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, the 26th day of July 2022, and is now in the presence of our loving Lord and Savior. Mr. Herod was born in Grapeland, Texas, on the 30th day of April 1938, to parents R.V. and Alma Grant Herod.
Mr. Herod lived a long life dedicated to serving the Lord. Before retiring, he worked at Vulcraft in Grapeland. Mr. Herod was blessed with many talents throughout his life including an expert horseman, rancher, and cowboy. He was also skilled at painting and drywall work. Mr. Herod was known to many as a talented singer and musician, a special gift passed down to several members in his family. However, Mr. Herod’s greatest legacy was his 40 years of service as the Pastor at Days Chapel Baptist Church. As the Pastor, he brought many to the Lord and will always be remembered for his dedicated service and love for others.
In Heaven, Mr. Herod joins his parents, R.V. and Alma Herod, and his daughter-in-law, Valerie Herod.
Left to cherish Mr. Herod’s memory are his wife of 63 years, Kay Francis Herod; sons, Michael Herod, Justin Todd Herod and wife Rainee, and John Herod and wife Stephanie; brother, Danny Herod and wife Carol; grandchildren, Justin, Stetson, Beka, Tara, Lucy, Luke, Kate, Jack, Nora, Easton, Lacy, and Michelle. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Herod’s life is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 1st day of August 2022 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel. Mr. Herod’s sons, Justin Herod and John Herod, will be officiating the service. Mr. Herod will be interred in Chambers-Day Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the start of the service at Rhone Funeral Home.
Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Justin “Chico” Herod, Stetson Herod, and Luke Herod.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Elkhart Oaks Care Center for the excellent care Mr. Herod received while he was a resident.
