Janette (Snapka) Leggon, 92, of Tyler, Texas, and previously of Palestine, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Tyler, Texas, where she resided in long-term care.
Born January 10, 1934, in Garland, Texas, to parents C.J. and Anne Snapka, Janette lived a life marked by dedication to family, community service, and practical pursuits. She married Donald Leggon in 1954, and they shared a lifelong partnership. Donald served in the Marines, while Janette completed 2½ years in the Navy.
The couple raised two children: daughter Donata Fenley (of Georgia) and son Marc Leggon (deceased). Janette was a devoted grandmother to Trisha McGuire (of Texas) and Olive Reese (of Georgia), and a great-grandmother to Cameron Freeman (of Texas).
Janette worked for 15 years at B.F. Goodrich in Akron, Ohio. After retirement, the family moved to Palestine, Texas, in 1989, where she and Donald purchased and operated The Brushy Creek Store for 10 years.
Throughout her life, Janette was deeply involved in volunteer work. In her earlier years, she served in the PTA (2 years, including 1 year as secretary), as a school library volunteer (2 years), Vacation Bible School (2 years), March of Dimes, Heart Fund, Girl Scout Leader (5 years), Band Parents Organization (4 years, including 3 years as president), and the Bainbridge Women's Club (20 years, including 3 years as president). In Texas, she volunteered with local firemen and emergency services (completing 280 hours of medical training and certification), serving as treasurer (1 year) and secretary (6 years), with Donald assisting as treasurer for 3 years.
Janette enjoyed gardening (herbal and vegetable), reading, sewing, and traveling whenever the spirit moved her to see something new. An avid do-it-yourselfer, she and Donald remodeled their home's interior and added outside features over the years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, C.J. and Anne Snapka, husband, Donald Leggon, and her son, Marc Leggon.
Janette is survived by her daughter, Donata Fenley of Georgia; granddaughters Trisha McGuire of Texas and Olive Reese of Georgia; great-grandson Cameron Freeman of Texas.
A graveside service to honor Janette’s life is to be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Roselawn Park in Palestine, Texas with Jacob Dunn officiating the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to March of Dimes, American Heart Association, or a local emergency services organization she supported.
