Janette Pharris Obituary

Mildred “Janette” Pharris, of Palestine, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 19th day of May 2024, at the age of 85.  She was born in Anderson County, Texas on the 23rd day of October 1938 to parents Otis Fletcher and Beulah West.

Mrs. Pharris dedicated 36 years of her life to the field of education, where she nurtured the minds and hearts of countless students. Her commitment to learning and development left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. Upon her retirement, she continued to serve others through her active involvement in the Antioch Baptist Church. As a woman of great faith in the Lord, she held the position of treasurer with grace and diligence. Her passion for teaching extended into her spiritual life as she taught Sunday School for many years, imparting wisdom and faith to her beloved students.

Her interests outside of work and church were equally filled with enthusiasm. Mrs. Pharris was an avid sports fan, often found cheering on the Slocum school sports teams from the stands. Her love for baseball was evident as she enjoyed watching games on TV, and she was a fervent supporter of the Dallas Mavericks. Her spirited nature was a joy to behold, especially during a thrilling game.

Those who knew Mrs. Pharris would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and spirited. She approached life with a warm heart and a steadfast spirit that uplifted everyone around her. Her presence was a comfort, and her guidance a constant source of strength.

Mrs. Pharris's legacy is one of love, and faith. As we remember her, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose, and brimming with kindness. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her including her daughter, Janet Devine and husband Brian, of Joshua, Texas; granddaughter, Jenna Devine and husband Zach; great granddaughter, Ellie; and numerous nieces, and nephews of whom she shared close relationships.

Mrs. Pharris was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Beulah Fletcher; husband, Robert Pharris; and her two brothers, Frank “Sonny” Fletcher and Verl Fletcher.
