Janie “Jan” Lou Casper Douthit, of Palestine, Texas, joined her husband in Heaven on their 67th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, the 20th day of August 2022. Mrs. Douthit passed away in Tyler, Texas at the age of 84. She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, on the 30th day of April 1938, to parents John Henry Casper and Vernie Tubbe Casper.
Mrs. Douthit was a very compassionate and loving lady. She was an exceptional cook who made the best pecan pies, coconut cream pies, and peanut butter pies. She also was known for her jalapeno cornbread and homemade candy. Luckily, she passed those skills down to her daughters and grandchildren, who will cherish those lessons forever.
Mrs. Douthit had a soft heart for dogs, cats, and all animals. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays and listening to her windchimes blow in the wind. She had a love for flowers, particularly roses and ferns. Sewing and quilting were additionally two hobbies that Mrs. Douthit greatly enjoyed. When she was raising her children, she would design and sew her daughter’s prom dresses and clothes. As she aged, Mrs. Douthit loved to relax and watch professional and college football. Her favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. Mrs. Douthit had a large, loving family that adored her and will miss her until the day they are all reunited in Heaven.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Vernie Casper; husband, M. R. Douthit; brothers, James Glen Casper and Lacy Casper; and her granddaughter, Rachel Curry Hickman.
Mrs. Douthit is survived by her daughters, Pam Ivins and husband Ernie, Penny Henderson Adams, and Sabra Curry Douthit; grandchildren, Aaron Nicholson, Heath Ryan Ivins and wife Andrea, Amanda Ivins Rogers, Lance Ivins and wife Jazman, Heather Nicole Henderson, and Kolby Henderson and wife Laura. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Mycala Hickman, Braden Hickman, Cameron Carnathan, Ambria Rogers, Rylee Ivins, Zoee Ivins, Jordyn Ivins, Jamison Ivins, Landon Henderson, Hanah Henderson, Rodney Knox III, Leah Henderson, Katelynn Henderson, and Klara Henderson; and great-great-grandson, Axton Latham.
A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Douthit’s life is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon, on Thursday, the 25th day of August 2022 at Palestine Church of the Nazarene, 1850 US Highway 84, Palestine, Texas. Daniel and Debra Smith, and Larry Compton will be officiating the service. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart.
Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the start of the service at Palestine Church of the Nazarene.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Aaron Nicholson, Heath Ryan Ivins, Lance Ivins, Kolby Henderson, Braden Hickman, Landon Henderson, Cameron Carnathan, Rodney Knox III, and Parker Giles.
