Jeanne Smith Obituary

Jeanne C. Smith, of Palestine, Texas, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at the venerable age of 88. Born on May 31, 1937, in Houma, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Ronald J. Champagne and Eula Mae Naquin.

For many years, she and her husband were the proud owner and operator of Seven Seas in the 70’s and Zeke's Smokehouse late 80’s through the 90’s, where she poured her heart into every facet of the business. Her earlier career also saw her as a skilled operator at Palestine Telephone, a role in which she connected people in more ways than one. Jeanne's work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit were admired by all who knew her.

Mrs. Smith had a vibrant array of interests that brought joy to her life and those around her. An avid crafter, she found happiness in the creation of beautiful things. However, it was oil painting that truly captured her heart. Those who knew Mrs. Smith would describe her as kind, loving, and wise. Her kind-hearted nature will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ronald Champagne and Eula Naquin; her siblings, Ronald James Champagne, Audrey Blanchard, and Lloyd Gipe.

Mrs. Smith's life was one marked by dedication, both to her family and to her passions. She was the beloved wife of Wayne Smith for an incredible 68 years, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Stephen Smith, Bryan Smith and his wife Amy. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jeanne was a cherished sister to Dave Champagne, John Jessen, Weldon McDougle, and Melva McDougle, all of whom shared in the rich tapestry of her life.
