Obituary

Jerry Donald Worley, age 76, of Palestine, Texas, passed away leaving behind a legacy of kindness, thoughtfulness, and adventure on Sunday, the 9th day of July 2023.  Mr. Worley was born in Palestine, Texas, on the 11th day of August 1946 to parents Paul Worley and Altha Main Worley.

Mr. Worley was a loving husband, father, and a doting grandfather, whose family was his pride and joy. His kindness and thoughtfulness made him a beloved figure in his community, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Worley was a man of many talents, but he was best known for his work as an electrician, a profession he passionately pursued with utmost dedication. His ability to understand and solve complex electrical problems was not only a testament to his professional expertise but also a reflection of his relentless determination. He was a hard worker, who believed in the value of honest labor, and his dedication to his craft was admired by everyone who knew him. Born with a knack for fixing things, Mr. Worley could repair anything that fell into his skilled hands.

A man of diverse interests, Mr. Worley found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an ardent lover of the outdoors, with hunting and fishing being his favorite pastimes. His adventurous spirit led him to many memorable outdoor escapades, and his stories about his adventures were always a treat to hear. His love for target shooting in his younger years was also well-known, and his accuracy was a thing of legend among his friends and colleagues.

Mr. Worley is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Altha Worley; sisters, Sandra Ives, and Carolyn Worley.

Mr. Worley is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Worley; daughters, Terri Dowdy and husband Claude of Palestine, Texas, Amy Baker and husband Mike of Arkansas; son, James E. “Eddie” Worley and wife Sheila of Jacksonville, Texas; brother, Elward Worley of Bossier City, Louisiana; grandchildren, Brandon, B.J., Will, Ivan, Amber, Kristin, and Kara; great grandchildren, Austin, Avery, Kennedy, Myles, Aurora, and Westin. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 14th day of July, in the Parlor of Rhone Funeral Home, 3900 S. State Highway 19 in Palestine.

 A funeral service and celebration of his life is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 15th day of July 2023, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel, where Bro. Michael George officiate.  Interment will follow in Roselawn Park.     

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons; Brandon Worley, Ivan Worley, William Worley, along with Curtis Axum, George Crawford and James Ray Jones.
