Jessie Williams Obituary

Jessie Claudine Williams, age 88, of Pert, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, the 25th day of April 2023, in Tyler, Texas.  Mrs. Williams was born in Bullard, Texas, on the 16th day of August 1934 to parents Edward Wiegman and Ether Frith Wiegman.

Mrs. Williams was a child of God, who had a close relationship with the Lord, and began every day in prayer.  She was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church of Pert and an active participant of the Methodist Women’s group that helps with mission work and benevolent work around the world.

Mrs. Williams was a loving wife and mother, who was always concerned for others instead of her own well-being.  She was a true lady who took pride in her appearance.  She had a passion for cooking and found great pleasure in watching others enjoy her delicious cooking. Every Christmas, she would bake a plethora of candies and cookies to give in perfectly decorated tins to everyone in the community.

Not only was Mrs. Williams a delicate southern belle, but she also had an inner grit.  She worked cattle alongside her son, helping in any capacity that she could.  Ranching was hard work, but she always took pleasure in being right there in the action.

Mrs. Williams had a heart to serve others, not only in church, but other organizations as well.  She served on the Olive Branch Cemetery Board and the Neches I.S.D. School Board for many years.  She took her responsibilities seriously and served with all she had.  Mrs. Williams' dedication to her family, community, and church will be missed and always cherished.

She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Ether Wiegman; husband, Paul Elrod Williams; daughter, Beverly Jean Williams; brothers, Wesley Wiegman, Bobby Wiegman, Cecil Wiegman, Alfred Wiegman, and Lynn Wiegman.

Mrs. Williams leaves behind her daughter, Paula Herrington of Palestine; son, Gene Williams and wife Jessica of Pert; sister, Billie Jean Allen; brother, L.C. Wiegman; and three grandchildren, Megan Herrington, Lauren Chiourou and husband Slim, and Maggie Williams.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Williams is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 29th day of April 2023 at Mt. Vernon Methodist Church of Pert.  Rev. Craig Harris and Rev. Jacob Dunn will officiate the service.  Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the start of the service at Mt. Vernon Methodist Church of Pert.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are John Goodman, Roger Ray, Greg Anderson, Randy Smith, Johnny Kee, Johnny Melton, Jim Thornell, Terry Flusche, and Thomas Starkey.  Honorary pallbearers include the men of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church of Pert.
