Joan Mays, age 83, of Jacksonville, Texas, and previously of Elkhart, Texas, peacefully passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and creativity on Wednesday, the 22nd day of May 2024, in Jacksonville, Texas. She was born on the 22nd day of December 1940 in Houston, Texas, to parents Herbert L. Garrison and Vivian Lewis Thompson.
Mrs. Mays dedicated 35 years to the noble profession of nursing, touching countless lives with her compassion and care. Mrs. Mays retired as a much-respected member of her profession and community, having been deeply involved in various associations throughout her career.
Her passion for life extended beyond her work. Mrs. Mays had a remarkable talent for decorating and crafting, bringing beauty and joy into the lives of those around her. Her creative spirit was matched by her friendly demeanor, making her a cherished companion and friend.
Mrs. Mays also found pleasure in the simple joys of life, including her love for dining out. Her presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and she will be remembered as a loving, creative, and friendly soul whose memory will be treasured by all who knew her.
Mrs. Mays is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Vivian Garrison and her husband, Don G. Mays.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Marilyn Domin and husband Fred, of Jacksonville, Texas; daughter, Stephanie Roberts, of Athens, Texas; son, Stacey Cozart, of Athens, Texas; sister, Verneal, of Colorado; brother, Joe, of Tyler, Texas; one grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Graveside services to honor the life of Joan Mays are to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 28th day of May 2024 in Crawford Cemetery. Ben Rhone will be officiating the service.
