John Conrad Alexander, III, age 72, of Elkhart, was born on the 8th day of March 1948, in Galveston, Texas, to parents John Alexander, Jr. and Cora Mae Woodard Alexander, and passed away to his home in heaven on Thursday, the 11th day of February 2021.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Cora Alexander; brother, Philip Wayne Alexander; and grandchildren, Shay and Hannah. Mr. Alexander is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deborah Jean Alexander; daughter, Andrea Rachelle Surber and husband Dirk; sons, James Dalton Alexander and wife Ross, Michael Wayne Alexander and wife Natasha; brothers, Mike Alexander and Jerry Alexander. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Payton, Brooks, Noah, Jordan, Avery, Asher, Allisa, Ben and Emma, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Mr. Alexander served in the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees, during the Vietnam War. He received several medals for his heroic service. Mr. Alexander was a man of his word, very giving, and was loyal to his family and friends. He was a faithful Christian to the Lord and loved his church family at Calvary Christian Center. Mr. Alexander was extremely intelligent and excelled at everything he attempted. He was a master wood worker, pipefitter, and gunsmith. He enjoyed rebuilding guns and reloading. Mr. Alexander will leave a void in the hearts of many.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Sunday, the 21st day of February 2021 at Rhone Funeral Home.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Alexander’s life is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 22nd day of February 2021 at Calvary Christian Center with Bro. Jack Smith officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Garrett Smith, Danny Cantrell, Kyle Johnson, Danny Fields, Arron Kilgore, and John Floyd. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Smith and Joe Radford.
