John Buck Scarborough, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on February 5, 2026, in Brushy Creek after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 19, 1938, in Palestine, Texas to parents Ezem Gillam Scarborough and Genever Holcomb Scarborough.
He was a graduate of LaPoynor High School, Henderson County Junior College and earned a teaching degree from SFA University. He went on to teach High School Math at LaPoynor ISD for 42 years. John Buck was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Montalba.
He was an avid hunter, especially loved hunting dove and quail. His love for horses always had him breaking colts, riding, and team roping. However, his greatest pastime was working on his ranch and raising his livestock.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ezem and Genever Scarborough, and brother and sister-in-law, E.G. and Christene Scarborough.
John Buck is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Theresa Gail White Scarborough. Son, Billy and wife Kendra Scarborough; Granddaughter, Katy and husband Kyle Weatherford; Great Granddaughter Kenly Weatherford. Daughter, Karen and husband Mick Roberts; Grandson, Trey and wife Natalie Gould; Granddaughter, Michaela Ellis; Great Grandsons, Maddox and Maverick Gould. Special friend and team roping partner Jim Turnage (DeeDee); special cousin, Jan Scarborough and several nieces, nephews, and other family members who will miss him deeply.
The family wished to send a special thanks to the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, especially Larami and Griselda.
Graveside services celebrating the life of John Buck will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Hopewell Cemetery in Brushy Creek, Texas, with Doyle Wood officiating.
Visitation will take place from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., before the service.
