Johnny Ray Farris, Sr., age 81, of Madisonville, Texas, went to his heavenly home on the 8th day of March 2020, at Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center in Temple. He was born on the 11th day of November 1938, in Houston, Texas to Sidney “Grady” Farris and Fannie Lee Strickland Farris.
Mr. Farris served in the United States Army, in Germany, during the Cold War. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Farris took great pride in showing off his cattle and hay fields. He was also very involved in the Houston Livestock and Rodeo and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ila Mae Ghiselli and brother, Billy Doyle Farris.
Mr. Farris leaves behind his sons, Johnny Ray Farris, Jr. and wife Diane of Palestine, Michael Robert Farris and wife Kim of Magnolia, and Russell Lee Farris of Houston; sister, Ludeen Sweeney of Navasota; grandchildren, Jace Farris, Baylee Farris, Lane Farris, Kanon Farris, Ashley Farris, Payton Farris and Payne Farris. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with Military Honors to celebrate the life of Johnny Ray Farris, Sr. are to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 14th day of March 2020, at Park Cemetery in Madisonville, Texas.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mr. Farris’s memory can be directed towards VA Hospital in Temple, 1901 Veteran Memorial Drive, Temple, Texas 76504.
