Joyce Newsom Obituary

Joyce Jean Newsom, affectionately known as Jean to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 23rd day of November 2025, at the age of 91. Born on the 3rd day of September 1934, in Oakwood, Texas, Jean was the cherished daughter of John William “Bill” Mullenax and Loraine Tacker Mullenax.

Jean was a member at Oakwood Baptist Church, where she dedicated countless hours to serving and caring for others. Her commitment to her community was a testament to her loving nature and desire to make a positive impact on those around her. Jean's ability to love unconditionally and her youthful spirit were sources of inspiration and comfort to many.

She was an avid fan of westerns, which brought excitement and adventure into her days. Her hands were rarely still, as she was often found crocheting beautiful pieces for her loved ones, engaging her mind with crossword puzzles, or reading a good book.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Loraine Mullenax; husband John Henry Newsom; son, John Davis Newsom; sister, Tommie Lee Zelenka; and brother, Joe Earl Mullenax.

Jean's legacy of kindness and gentleness is carried on by her devoted daughter, Barbara Caudle, her caring son-in-law, Bob, and her grandson, J.R., who brought immense joy and pride to her life.
