Joyce "JoJo" Dunlap Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce "JoJo" Dunlap, who departed this world peacefully on March 9, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on November 10, 1944, in Houston County, Texas, JoJo was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, daughter and friend. She touched the lives of many with her indomitable spirit and vibrant personality. JoJo was the cherished daughter of Annie and Ike Kirksey, who instilled in her the values of kindness, compassion, and resilience.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike Dunlap, with whom she shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. JoJo was also predeceased by her daughter, Kim Kennedy; her son, John Dunlap; her brothers, Glynn and Bill Kirksey; and her parents, Annie and Ike Kirksey. Despite the profound losses she faced, JoJo remained a pillar of strength and hope for her family. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lynn Kennedy,  Robin Dunlap and wife Cathy Mustachio, and a legacy of love that includes her grandchildren: Christy Rodbro, Becky Boles, Tyler Craun, and Mikella Chance. JoJo's heart expanded further with the birth of her ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. She leaves behind her loving sisters, Ann Bickerstaff and Pat Velez, along with her husband, Lupe, and a host of nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

JoJo dedicated over 30 years of her life to her career at Smith International, where she was known for her work ethic and her ability to make every colleague feel valued. Outside of work, she embraced life with enthusiasm, indulging in her hobbies of fishing, food, painting, crafts, and reading. Her creative spirit came alive in all that she did, from painting to whipping up meals that brought family together. Known for her glamorous style and infectious wit, JoJo had a unique ability to light up any room she entered. She was nurturing and empathetic, always putting others' needs before her own. Her selfless nature and loving demeanor made her a confidante for many, as she offered comfort and wisdom to friends and family alike.

JoJo's life will be celebrated at her celebration of life, which will be held at Strongs Memorial Cemetery on March 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM. This will be a time for family and friends to gather, share memories, and honor the incredible woman she was. Though she has left this earthly realm, the love and lessons JoJo imparted will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, dear JoJo; your legacy of love will live on through all of us.
