Kandy Ann (Sleeper) Sexton

Kandy Ann Sleeper Sexton, age 41, of Palestine, Texas, passed from her family’s embrace and into the Lord’s loving hands, on Saturday, the 15th day of January 2022, after being involved in a hit and run accident.  She was born on the 12th day of September 1980, in Dallas, Texas.

Kandy was adopted into the Sleeper family consisting of parents Dennis, Sandra, and brother Paul. Kandy was the oldest of a sibling group comprising of a sister, Sheryl, and two brothers, Kevin and Scott, in November 1986. She took ballet along with her sister Sheryl and brother Scott for a few years. She wrangled chickens and goats on the family’s farm in Royce City, Texas before the family moved to Nebraska.

Kandy attended school in Royce City, Texas for several years and finished her secondary education being home schooled. She attended college in Omaha, Nebraska for a while.

Kandy and John attended Southside Baptist Church when they were not working on Sundays. She is best known as John’s wife. If she went to Walmart, McDonald’s, Family Dollar, etc. and said her name was “Kandy Sexton,” they would reply, “Oh, you are John’s wife.” Kandy held various jobs both in Nebraska and Texas over the years. The most recent were home care associate for the late Joy Fox, SJ Fox’s wife, and her last job at Family Dollar. 

She is preceded in death by her brother Scott.

Kandy is survived by her husband of eleven years, John Sexton; parents, Dennis and Sandra Sleeper of Palestine, Texas; baby sister, Isabella of Palestine, Texas; older brother, Paul of Little Elm, Texas; and two of the children adopted with her, Kevin of Henderson, Texas, and Sheryl of Bellevue, Nebraska. She is also survived by a sister, Jennifer, living in Illinois and a brother, Ben, in Nebraska, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Kandy Sexton is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 25th day of January 2022 at Southside Baptist Church with Dr. David English officiating.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Family Dollar for the most encouraging article they wrote soon after Kandy was killed, and for setting up a collection for John in their stores. We also want to thank all the people who have reached out to us in person, via phone, and on Facebook.
