Karen Hudson Obituary

Mrs. Karen D'Ann Hudson, known affectionately as Mrs. Hudson to her students and friends, passed away on Saturday, the 28th day of September 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 67. Born on the 14th day of May 1957, in Inglewood, California, to parents Samuel Oscar Mayfield and Dixie Stine Mayfield, she embraced life with a vibrant spirit that became her signature trait. Mrs. Hudson’s journey came to a peaceful end in Houston, Texas, where she was surrounded by her cherished family.

Mrs. Hudson dedicated 23 years to educating young minds as a beloved teacher within Crockett I.S.D. and Grapeland I.S.D. Her commitment to education was rooted in a profound belief in the potential of every child. With a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University, she possessed not only the knowledge but also the heart to make a lasting impact on her students. Her classroom was a sanctuary of creativity, encouragement, and learning, reflecting her own loving and friendly nature until her retirement.

Beyond her professional achievements, Mrs. Hudson had a passion for arts and crafts, which allowed her to express her creative side. Her artwork and projects were not just hobbies but extensions of her vibrant personality. She found joy in the simple pleasure of being outside, reveling in the beauty of nature, which often provided inspiration for her creative pursuits.

Those who knew Mrs. Hudson will remember her for her great personality, which was as warm and inviting as a sunny Texas day. Her loving and friendly demeanor made her a cherished friend, adoring member of her church family at Grapeland First Baptist Church, colleague, and mentor. She was the personification of creativity, always finding unique ways to bring joy and beauty into the world.

Mrs. Hudson's legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness and in the minds of the countless students she inspired throughout her admirable career. As we bid farewell to Mrs. Karen D'Ann Hudson, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that enriched the lives of many. Her memory will continue to shine brightly, much like the colorful crafts she lovingly created and the smiles she so effortlessly brought to our faces.

Mrs. Hudson is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Dixie Mayfield.

She leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Tom Hudson; her two daughters that she loved dearly, Melissa Hudson, of Houston, Texas, and Carrie Kelley and husband Matt, of Iowa Park, Texas; grandchildren, Tucker and Maggie; and her brothers, Bob Mayfield and wife Brenda, Ron Mayfield and wife Lauralynn, and Steve Mayfield and wife Vlasta, all of whom she shared countless memories.  Mrs. Hudson is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other family members, and a multitude of friends.
