Larry Wayne Quick, of Elkhart, Texas, known affectionately to his grandchildren as “Grampy”, left this world on Thursday, the 16th day of January 2025, at the age of 83. Born on Christmas Day in 1941, in the small Anderson County town of Redtown, Texas, to parents Garland Foster Quick and Iva Estelle Gray.
Larry's professional life was marked by dedication and skill. He retired from a fulfilling career as a diesel mechanic at the Wal-Mart Warehouse in Tucker, where his expertise and work ethic were well-respected. Prior to that, he spent eleven years at the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility, where his contributions were equally valued.
Those who knew Larry understood that he was an amazing and loving man. His presence had a way of making everyone feel welcome and cherished. There truly was no one else like him. Larry possessed a wealth of knowledge on a variety of topics, and he was always willing to share his insights with others. His excellent memory was a source of fascination and often came in handy during conversations and storytelling.
A voracious reader, Larry, had a particular fondness for the western novels of Louis L'Amour. His love for these stories spoke to his own adventurous spirit and appreciation for the vast landscapes and challenges of the American frontier. Larry's passion for firearms was well known. He was an avid gun collector and reloader, a hobby that he passed down to his children along with countless other basic life lessons. His patience was legendary, and he always preferred to be in the background, observing and guiding rather than seeking the spotlight.
In his younger years, Larry loved to hunt and spent many a season at the deer lease, a tradition that brought him great joy and peace. The outdoors was a sanctuary for him, a place where he could connect with nature and indulge in the quiet contemplation that he so loved.
Larry's life was one of quiet impact, touching the lives of those around him in profound ways. His legacy is one of love, knowledge, and the gentle strength that comes from a life well-lived. He will be remembered for his warm heart, his wisdom, and the subtle yet significant influence he had on his family and others around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Garland and Iva Quick; wife, Judy Marie (Craig) Quick; son, Stacey James Quick; and his great-grandson, Kaden Quick.
Larry Wayne Quick's memory will be cherished and honored by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him, including his daughter, Aimee Johnson and husband Kyle; sons, Kevin Quick and wife Ronda, and Darren Quick; brother, Harold Quick; grandchildren, Jonathan Quick, Corbin Quick, Zane Quick, Jake Quick, Justin Quick, Christopher Roddy, Tucker Johnson, Zack Johnson, Allison Quick, and Marley Johnson. Larry also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Tala Quick, Eli Roddy, John Roddy, Case Quick, Addilyn Quick, and Freya Roddy, along with a host of friends.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon, on Friday, the 24th day of January 2025 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Timmy Quick officiating the service. Interment will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery where Larry will be laid next to his wife.
Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the start of the service at Rhone Funeral Home.
