Lillie Eleanor Broughton, age 79, of Grapeland, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, the 2nd day of December 2024, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on the 1st day of September 1945, in Palestine, Texas, her warm presence and generous spirit were a blessing to all who knew her.
Lillie's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her work, and her community. Known to her grandchildren as "Granny-Grunt," she embodied the roles of matriarch and mentor with grace and humor. Her guidance and love shaped the lives of her family, leaving a legacy of kindness and compassion that will continue to resonate through generations.
For over three decades, Lillie owned and operated Broughton Bookkeeping and Tax Service in Grapeland, Texas. Her professionalism, integrity, and expertise earned her the respect and trust of the community. She was more than just a business owner; she was a friend and confidante to her clients, many of whom relied on her sage advice and warm conversation year after year.
Beyond her work, Lillie was an avid Coca-Cola collector, a hobby that reflected her zest for life and her appreciation for the simple joys. Her collection was a testament to her attention to detail and the pleasure she took in preserving memories.
Lillie's interests were as rich and varied as her character. A voracious reader, she found joy and solace in the pages of books, which were her constant companions. Her love for reading was matched only by her love for a refreshing Diet Coke, a treat she savored and an indulgence that became a charming hallmark of her daily routine.
She is preceded in death by her husband Michael “Mike” Vaughan Broughton; son, Larry Wayne Pelham, Jr.; and her mother, Johnye King Douthit.
Lillie’s legacy continues through her daughters, Lilliene Crum and her husband William, Stephanie Ganske and her husband DeWayne, Cathy Broughton, and Amanda Rollins. Lillie raised her grandsons, Michael Hatton and his wife Kim, and Aaron Hatton and his wife Janna. She leaves behind ten grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.
Lillie’s family will celebrate her life at a later date.
