Lloyd Vernon Rutledge, Jr., age 92, of Palestine, departed this life peacefully on Friday, the 12th day of March 2021 at Legacy at Town Creek. He was born in Houston, Texas, on the 11th day of February 1929, to parents Lloyd V. Rutledge and Maude Webb Rutledge.
Mr. Rutledge lived a long and fulfilling life. He was a kindhearted man and extraordinarily devoted husband that took great pride in caring for his wife. He was exceptionally talented with iron works and could fix anything that touched his hands. Mr. Rutledge served in the National Guard and was a member of the Crockett Road Church of Christ for almost thirty years.
Mr. Rutledge is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Shirley Rutledge; son, Layne Vannoy and wife Amy of Palestine, Floyd Rutledge and wife Melanie of Austin; and grandchildren, Carson Vannoy, Miles Vannoy and Lyndsey Perry. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.
A private family graveside service for Mr. Rutledge is to be conducted at twelve noon on Monday, the 15th day of March 2021 at Liberty Cemetery in Bradford.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mr. Rutledge’s memory can be directed towards “Give Me the Bible” TV program, Crockett Road Church of Christ, P.O. Box 288, Palestine, Texas 75802.
