Lonnie Audean Squyres, age 81, of Grapeland, Texas, passed away on Monday, the 1st day of June 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on the 29th day of January 1945, in Woodville, Texas to Cecil Squyres and Ludie Hughes Squyres. He lived a life marked by hard work and a deep devotion to his family.
Lonnie graduated from Chester High School. He was known as a dependable, respectful, and hardworking man who took pride in doing a job well. He retired from the City of Grapeland after years of faithful service and gave 21 years to the Grapeland Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his work there, he was good with the wrecker and spent time working on the ambulance as an EMT, always ready to help when someone was in need. Helping people was not just something he did. It was part of who he was.
He was a member of Grace Bible Church in Grapeland, Texas, where his faith was an important part of his life. Fishing was one of Lonnie’s favorite pastimes. Most importantly, he loved his family deeply, and his boys, meant the world to him.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Ludie Squyres; brother-in-law, Wayne Pollock; and sister-in-law, Patsy Squyres.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Squyres; sons, Phillip Squyres and wife Joy, and David Squyres; sister, Ann Pollock; brother, Dwight Squyres; his grandchildren, Austin Squyres and wife Kaylon, Charity Shaw and husband Jake; and great-grandchildren, Brinley Crowson, Slayden Squyres, Rayelee Squyres, and Andie Shaw. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
Funeral services to celebrate Lonnie Squyres’s life are to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 6th day of June 2026 at Grace Bible Church in Grapeland, Texas with T.C Howard and Roger Dickey officiating the service. Interment will follow in Squyres Family Cemetery, 455 CR 1705, Grapeland, Texas 75844.
Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour before the start of service.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Roger Dickey, Mitch Flanagan, Scott Commander, Truman Cooper, Benny Bush, Austin Squyres, and Jake Shaw. Honorary pallbearers include Slayden Squyres.
