Lorna Rae “Mickey” Smith, age 80, of Oakwood, went to spend her eternity with Jesus on the 2nd day of June 2020, at Elkhart Oaks Care Center in Elkhart, Texas.   She was born on the 19th day of October 1939, in Brenham, Texas to Herbert Wendler and Irene Haas.  She was a Lutheran.  She married John M. She also loved her dog, Little Bit. She was known for her delicious blackberry jam, and she enjoyed making it for others to enjoy.  Her favorite holiday was Easter, and she enjoyed the German tradition of digging Easter holes along with picking flowers.

Lorna is preceded in death by her parents, Irene Haas, and Herbert and Ida Wendler; and brother Herbert Wendler Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John M. Smith of Oakwood, Texas; daughters, Sherry Ripkowski of Baytown, Texas, Sara Johnice Evans of Pasadena, Texas, Andrea Rhea Smith of Mt. Belvieu, Texas,  and Holly Smith of Dayton, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Bowers, Brandy and Lyle Nifong, Stephanie and Kent Suttle, Sara Evans, Taylor Qualls, Dylan Clark, and Dalton Patterson; great-grandchildren, Christopher Allen Bowers, John Morgan Bowers,  Casin Nifong, Morgan Qualls, Delani Suttle, Giuliana Nifong, Callaway Nifong, Quinn Qualls, Landon Suttle, Liam Nifong, Kinley Evans, and Harold Oliver Hobbs; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
